My (Texas) Weekend in Pictures

This is what I think of Texas!

Our sweet barrel-proof ride!

A rest stop south of Fort Worth on I-35

More pictures behind the cut!!!

We stopped and ate at Rudy's Bar-B-Q

Suzi expresses how she feels about the "rally" before the game.

Maybe we would have had more fun at this event.

But then there weren't Mizzou Golden Girls at the Homeland Security Conference.

Our seats were better than I thought. Too bad the game was so awful.

The next day we walked around downtown Dallas and looked at buildings. There wasn't much else to do.

Can you tell I lost my hair product at the airport?

The wind certainly didn't help the matter any.

Seriously... there must have been gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

The JFK Memorial in Dallas

The building that Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot JFK from.

"Dear Mom... Be glad you didn't go to the game."

Impulse Purchase

This has been an exhausting weekend and I really should be curled up in bed right now... but I know I've already gone too long without an update.

At some point around the middle of last week, I got the bright idea that I wanted to go to the Mizzou-Oklahoma game in San Antonio, Texas. I wasn't really planning on acting on this bright idea, until I just happened to be on eBay... and just happened to see a super cheap pair of tickets to the game... and just happened to accidentally impulse purchase them. I didn't think I'd actually win the auction! I put in an amount that was just enough to satisfy my urge to bid, but not enough to actually win the tickets. Well, that plan backfired.

So then I had this pair of tickets, albeit cheap tickets, coming to me and no good way to get there. Despite the fact that New Mexico borders Texas to the west, it's still a pretty long trip to San Antonio fro ABQ. Last minute flying was too pricey and driving 11 hours by myself in a rental car seemed pretty insane. Carrie tried to convince me not to go at all. I gave in for a few days and said I wasn't going. But when those shiny tickets arrived in the mail it was all over. I hopped on my computer to look at rental car prices, and my Saint Louis friend Suzi started a gmail chat with me. The conversation went something like this:

S: Only 29 more hours until the game.
A: I have an extra ticket, do you want to go?
S: What!?!?! You're going?!?

The next thing I knew, we had coordinated a complicated plan to fly into Dallas, arrive 15 minutes apart, meet in the terminal, rent a car, and drive to San Antonio for the game. When I rushed into Tamarind and told everyone about my plans, they all looked at me like I was crazy. I guess it was a little bit.

I'm much too tired to post pictures and go into all of the details right now, but here are a few things we discovered.

  • If you get pulled aside for extra screening at the airport, you should make sure the screeners give you back your toiletries. Otherwise, you might end up with flat hair, bad breath, and stinky armpits.

  • There is an IKEA in the Middle of Nowhere, Texas.

  • Saturn cars do wonderfully well when struck by flying construction barrels.

  • Oklahoma Sooner football fans are obnoxious.

  • The DFW airport has vending machines that sell iPods.

  • There are three year olds that can play the piano better than me.

  • The Grassy Knoll isn't as flashy as you might expect it to be.

  • Chase Daniel is no longer my boyfriend.

Pictures tomorrow maybe. Good night!
